This month I focus on PIE.
I’m not referring to apple, sweet potato or mincemeat; this pie represents how much energy we have to expend on a typical day.
I borrowed this–with permission–from a stress management colleague, Roger Mellott. He contends that we get one “energy pie” each day and that we must carefully decide how, and to whom, we dole out each slice.
I now challenge my audience members to ask, in each situation that requires their energy:

-Ask for help…focus on what other person can contribute
-Reality check: Which things can be less than perfect?
2. TRYING TO FIX/CONTROL OTHERS
-Remember…people have been this way since 4 years old!
-Serenity prayer: Know what you can fix and what you can’t
3. TOO MANY PRIORITIES
-Distinguish between urgent and important
-Set bite-size goals for your non-urgent “Someday I will…” list
-3 P’s – Most things are not PERSONAL, not PERMANENT and don’t affect the big PICTURE…so don’t dwell on them
-By the way, if you’re reading this and thinking “I wonder what she means by overanalyzing”…then, you’re overanalyzing!
5. PEOPLE PLEASING
-Learn to say NO…”I appreciate the offer, however I’ll pass.”
